Before I start, I should be honest with you:
I’ve smoked a lot (far, far too much) pot, drank a ton of liquor, and dated an inmate, then a drug dealer, then a cheater… I’ve punched my stereo into oblivion and holes through apartment walls. I quit my retail job before I was fired for theft, spun my car against freeway traffic…the list is long so let’s fast forward a few years. It’s now the end of 2018 and I am blessed.
I am H-A-P-P-Y happy, drug free, emotionally healthy, and led by integrity. I am also married to THE most amazing, godly, loyal man. The man of my dreams. I’m talking courageous like Joshua, with the obedience of Moses and the heart of David. If you are like me a few years ago, you might wonder: How does that even happen? And whyyyyy does that not happen to me? Simply put…
I Let Jesus Take Control
I waved my white flag of surrender and Let Jesus take the wheel (I love that song!)
I found out life is so much more than the distractions we dull our pains and loneliness with. Life is so much better when we discover the lies that fuel our insecurities, and the truth of the beauty we hold within us.
We have been lied to, ladies, by stereotypes and expectations. Our view of ourselves has been distorted – perverted – by photoshopped magazines, unrealistic fairy tales, and booty-shaking music videos. You may know this already. But is your life any different just because you know?
My life changed when I took action.
When I stopped rebelling against myself and instead rebelled against “the standard” of the world. I turned to Jesus and He showed me a different standard. So this year, I encourage you to be a rebel with me. Take the fresh start that 2019 has to offer and let’s move toward the women we were created to be!
Over the next 52 weeks I will blog on how I took action and made room for God to literally turn my life right side up, and how I continue to take steps to become a woman worthy of the calling He’s given me. If you’re in, I need you to know up front: it’s not easy. It’s work. But it’s worth it.
If you want a self-help guru to tell you how to be happy in 24 hours, this is not the place. If there were such a place, trust me, I would be there! But like I challenge myself, I will challenge you to make tough decisions, have difficult conversations, and embrace the responsibility of taking your life back from the world.
Most importantly, I will challenge you to have a radical faith. This is the best part. This is where Jesus comes through. Where you feel His presence, and where He speaks to you through both everyday details and divine encounters.
Don’t Do It Alone!
My friend, my sister. I just want you to know, I am here to walk with you. God sent me friends to walk with me, and I want to walk with you. It’s not easy stepping away from people, jobs, relationships, and situations we know are wrong for us. It will feel lonely and you will question your decision. If you are going to take this journey, don’t do it alone. Call a friend, or share this post on your social media to find a friend to walk with this year. Taking two steps forward now and one step backward when things get tough is not a wise choice, especially if God has called you to burn a bridge. Just remember: with the right support, we will thrive together as sisters in Christ!
